Rural Engineering Service was formed in the year 1976. Governance was done under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department. Its objective was to perform relatively low cost construction works in rural areas except urban areas i.e district headquarters and urban areas and to provide technical advice and technical control over all the works being executed by three tier Panchayat Raj Institutions.
